Braga, located in the North of Portugal, it is considered the capital of the Minho Region, being one of the oldest Portuguese cities and one of the oldest Christian cities in the world, with more than 2000 years of history as a city.
It is known as the "Portuguese Rome" due to the Roman occupation in the year 16 B.C and the several religious buildings; and also as the "City of Archbishops" for having been governed for centuries by its Archbishops. For this reason, Braga is a deeply religious city.
Here we will visit the majestic Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte , the city's Ex-libris and declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2019. This pilgrimage site is one of the most impressive sacred hills in Europe. Magnificent, located on the top of the hill, surrounded by beautiful gardens and composed by the Via Sacra Chapels, the Church, the 573-step staircase and the Funicular (which is the oldest in the world in operation using the water balance system) . A relaxing place with great views over the city;
We continue to Sanctuary of Sameiro , located at 566 meters above sea level, providing a privileged view over the city of Braga;
In the city center, the Cathedral of Braga, one of the most important buildings in Braga and the city’s birthplace. Is the oldest in the Portugal;
The visit ends at the Historic Center with its streets and gardens.
